A Look at Types of Front Suspension

Suspension development in motor vehicles was not the result of some outside-of-the-box brainchild by a designer or engineer. Rather, it was an adaptation of the designs used in horse-drawn carriages, where a solid beam across the frame of the vehicle held the wheels and suspension, which was made up of leaf springs.
