The American Saver Is Now the American Poor
In a recent effort to encourage spending by consumers, the Federal Reserve promised to hold small-term interest rates near zero at least through mid-2013. A plot to lower extended-term rates followed suit in September. Unfortunately these lower rates constitute it harder for savers to hold onto their cash and still beat inflation.
